The US weather bureau has issued a SEVERE and excessive heat warning for today starting at 11 am lasting to 11 pm Saturday. Temperatures are forecast to be between 100 and 106 with overnight 65 to 75. Cooling is expected Saturday, but still high heat warnings are in effect until Sunday. Heat shelters are opening today in Placer and Sacramento Counties. Authorities are issuing warnings for anyone with breathing problems, protect pets and donat leave pets or children inside cars for any reason. Outside work is cautioned, and everyone needs to increase their water content and for pets.

Water use restrictions are still in affect for most of California. Restaurants and food services are not to serve water unless requested. Hotels and motels must give guests the option of not laundering linens, towels and sheets daily. Potable water is to be used for driveway and sidewalk washdowns. All residents are to restrict outdoor irrigation. Residents in most of the state are to restrict water usage by 20% and fines of 50 to 1 thousand dollars can be levied for overflow of water into streets and sidewalks.

On June 5, 2022, the Auburn Police Department was notified of an incident involving an adult male and two children. Auburn Police Patrol Officers initiated an investigation and summoned the assistance of detectives. Through their investigation they were able to determine 65-year-old Keith Richard Jones invited the two children, a seven and a nine-year-old, into his home on the 100 block of Marvin Way. Jones reportedly exposed himself, showed the children sexually explicit images, and inappropriately touched one of the children. The children fled the residence and reported the occurrences to their parents.

On June 7, 2022, the Auburn Police Department obtained and executed a search warrant at the Jones residence. Jones was arrested at his home and booked into the Placer County Jail for violation ofa Lewd or Lascivious Acts with a Child, Sending Harmful Material to Seduce a Minor, and Arranging a Meeting with a Minor for Lewd Purposes. He is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail. Auburn Police praised the courage of the children in escaping the home and telling parents, who then called Auburn Police and reported the incident.

A man convicted of carjacking and serving a sentence of life in prison was mistakenly released from the Sacramento County Main Jail on Wednesday night. He was found and returned to custody more than 14 hours later in San Joaquin County. Investigators believe an error made by sheriffas jail staff led to the release of Shaquille Lash, 28, who was not eligible for parole for another 13 years. Lash on Wednesday was transferred from the California Correctional Institution in Kern County to appear in court Friday in Sacramento County to face state unemployment fraud charges.

A sinkhole opened on a lonely stretch of Sierra highway Thursday morning after a pipe collapsed beneath the road. At 7:20 a.m., California Department of Transportation officials responded to reports of a sinkhole on a stretch of westbound Highway 50 in El Dorado County, about 10 miles east of Pollock Pines. Officials closed the lane and implemented one-way traffic control, which remains in place. According to Caltrans spokesman Steve Nelson, the sinkhole opened up on a remote stretch of road and did not directly affect any drivers. Despite the lane closure, the stretch of highway has seen only alight traffica throughout the day. The collapsed pipe beneath the highway dates to 1931.

PG&E Corp. pleaded not guilty Thursday to criminal charges filed in connection with a 2020 wildfire that killed four people in Shasta County. The innocent plea in Shasta Superior Court was no surprise. Californiaas largest utility has long said that while its equipment sparked the Zogg Fire, its conduct didnat constitute criminal behavior. Shastaas district attorney filed 31 felony and misdemeanor charges against PG&E last fall, including four counts of manslaughter. Cal Fire investigators concluded that the fire began when a tree contacted a PG&E power line. PG&E said it accepted the finding, but Chief Executive Patti Poppe said at the time, aWe did not commit a crime.a

There will be showings at noon, 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., the film is free and popcorn is available to purchase. Silver Screenas Susan Rushton said itas likely the film hasnat been shown in Auburn since its release in 1955.

The Stanley Kramer-directed medical romance-drama is based on a book that was written about the authoras time spent in Auburn. Neither the book nor the movie identify Auburn directly — the town is called Greenville instead.
